J.D. Coulson Award for Outstanding Achievement

D'Arcy Coulson was a broker and hospitality industry businessman with interests in Ottawa, Hull, Sudbury and Bourlemaque. Born in 1904, he studied at Loyola College High School in Montreal and at St. Michael's College in Toronto.

He was District Governor of the Lions' Club where he was active for years, and was also active in local hotel and restaurant organizations in Ottawa.

An avid sportsman, D'Arcy Coulson was an active player in the Ottawa golf, squash, tennis, hockey and skiing scenes. He was also a member of the NHL Philadelphia Quakers before returning to Ottawa to take over the family interests as President of Coulson Enterprises.

He married Denise Estelle Phelan of the Toronto Phelans; CARA Operations provided airline foods, and operated Harvey's Swiss Chalet and Second Cup.

The Coulson's six children, three boys and three girls, attended St. George's School, Gloucester St. Convent and St. Patrick's College High School, all in Ottawa.

D'Arcy Coulson finished his career as owner-general manager of the Alexandria Hotel on Bank Street. He died in 1996, joining his wife Denise who passed away in 1982. They were members of St. Dominic's parish in Luskville, and are buried in the St. Dominic's cemetery under a Celtic cross.

The Coulsons moved to Luskville in the 1970s to live in their home on their daughter's and son-in-law's farm, 'Farm of the Mountain', operated by Dr. Guy Laframboise and his wife Mary Anne.
