It’s hard to believe it’s already almost the middle of August and a month away from the West Quebecers 2nd Annual Golf Tournament. The best ball tournament is in support of our New Residents Program and it’s happening Sunday September 19th at Kingsway Park Golf and Country Club in the Aylmer sector of Gatineau. It’s sure to be a fun day with plenty of great prizes to be won, so whether you’re a scratch player or a hacker, whether you’re a long-time West Quebecer or a new resident, come and join us for a great time in support of a worthwhile community program!
The tournament is a scramble format (best-ball) where you play 18 holes of golf for $58-dollars, enjoy golf and a wonderful sit-down dinner for $90-dollars or join us for the happy hour and dinner for $32-dollars. After dinner we’ll be giving out a wide range of prizes including OttawaGolf.com seasons passes, 15-hours of sailing lessons, a 3-hour catamaran tour of the Ottawa River, golf umbrellas and gift certificates from various Gatineau restaurants, salons and stores. Everyone can win – even if you only come to eat!
All the proceeds from the
tournament will go to support the West Quebecers New Residents Program which we
started about a year and a half ago. Since then, we’ve sent information packages
to about two hundred families, couples and individuals who have moved to the
Outaouais - or are planning to
and
the requests keep coming in.
The package is a guide for new residents seeking English information about government and community services in such domains as health and education; how-to information about getting your Quebec health card and a driver’s license; and it includes public transit information, an Outaouais tourist guide, a City of Gatineau map, and other useful tips to help new residents adjust to living here. We are currently updating our Community Services Directory and will also offer the new version on CD starting this fall.
Many of the new residents who have received packages have told us they appreciate the information it contains, and even people who have lived here for a while are asking for it once they find out about it. Considering the current housing boom and influx of people moving to the Outaouais, there will certainly continue to be a need to help English-speaking residents make the adjustment to living here.
Funding for the New Residents Program, provided by Heritage Canada, is limited, so the proceeds from the tournament will raise the funds needed to keep the program going. So come out Sunday September 19th, have some fun and support this worthwhile community program!
