A win from the “West” puts new meaning into West Quebecers Second Annual Golf Tournament!
by Peggy Henderson
The Regional Association of West Quebecers held their 2nd Annual Golf Tournament fundraiser at the spectacular Kingsway Golf Club on Sunday September 19th. What a beautiful day! The teams began arriving around 11:00 am to register and hit a few balls on the practice range. Tee-offs got underway at 11:30 am and it was a delight to watch the camaraderie among the golfers. All ages were represented … teenagers right on up to a few seniors! Each golfer received complimentary golf balls, were treated to some delicious cookies on the 7th green and most importantly got to enjoy the impeccable conditioning of the Kingsway’s course.
When they
completed their 18 holes, the players signed up for the Putting Contest and got
into some friendly “matches”. At the end of the day, a total of $1750-dollars
was raised for the West Quebecers’ New Resident’s Program, which
provides a ‘Welcome’ package of information to English-speaking residents moving
to the Outaouais.
West Quebecers frequently receives calls for this informative package which
includes all kinds of information to help new residents get through the
often-difficult process of trying to access English information about services
such as health, education and social services from the Government of Quebec and
Outaouais municipalities.
Some new residents were among the participants and guests who sat down to a wonderful dinner in the Clubhouse as the sun was setting on the golf course.
Rick Henderson, Executive Director, of the West Quebecers, emceed the evening and happily handed over the Winner’s trophy to a team that mostly hailed from Edmonton! Thus, the trophies for the 2nd Annual Golf Tournament will be taken well past our borders by winners, David Mah, Hardeep Dhillon and Elmar Herzog. Well done!
Our major prizes, a season’s pass of golf from OttawaGolf.Com to each winner, were handed out to Terry Clarke for Closest to the Pin, James Henderson for Longest Drive and Janet Hines for both the Ladies Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive! Well done Terry, James and Janet.
You can see photos of all the tournament winners and teams on the West Quebecers website at www.westquebecers.com.
Special thanks go to our major sponsors OttawaGolf.Com and to the Aylmer Bulletin / West Quebec Post who donated all of our advertising. West Quebecers also thanks all of the local merchants, business people and other donators who, when Gaetanne Séguin, our Community Liaison Officer, came calling, contributed so generously that practically everyone who attended, left with a prize - even the dinner guests!
Lastly our thanks to the volunteers who, with great enthusiasm helped to make this event a day to remember: Mary Tessier, Camille Chapman, Anne MacNeil, Stephanie Tomicic and Peggy Henderson.
Watch for the 3rd Annual West Quebecers Tournament next year … it’s a great community event!
