Sandwich Generation Workshop & Upcoming Community Awards
by Gaetanne Séguin
This
promises to be a banner year for the Regional Association of West Quebecers! We
just wrapped up a very successful two-evening workshop in Aylmer called
‘Empowering the Sandwich Generation’, which provided loads of useful information
and advice for people in our community who are juggling the responsibilities of
caring for elderly parents or relatives and taking care of their children at the
same time. RAWQ coordinated the workshop for the Quebec Association of Adult
Learning (QAAL) which is running these workshops across the province.
The
facilitator said our workshop attracted the greatest number of community
participants. Kelly Howarth also had this to say: “Thank you for the wonderful
experience of meeting with and working with your community around Empowering the
Sandwich Generation. The collective brainstorming and sharing amongst workshop
participants was refreshing”.
Thanks
to everyone involved for sharing their personal stories and struggles, and to
Symmes Junior High
School for
allowing us to hold the workshop in their cafeteria.
Members
of our community will also be participating in the selection committee to choose
the winner for this year’s West Quebecers Community Awards. The deadline for
nominations is Thursday March 31st, which means you have one more
week to nominate a deserving volunteer from your community. Judging by the names
we’ve already received, the awards selection committee will have a challenging
job, but given the vast array of deserving volunteers in
West Quebec,
we know there are still many more names that should come in.
