New Comprehensive Outaouais Health Needs Assessment
Being Released at Public Forum

Gatineau, January 30, 2006 - Just over a year after being established, the Outaouais Health and Social Services Network for the English-speaking population (OHSSN), is releasing a ‘Report on Health and Social Services Needs of the English-speaking Population’ at its first public forum. The report will detail extensive research conducted over the past year, an analysis of recent demographic data, and the English-speaking population’s perceptions and needs concerning health and social services.

OHSSN project coordinator Danielle Lanyi says it’s been an interesting year and she’s looking forward to presenting her findings. “We conducted 14 focus groups in both urban and rural areas and one of the main concerns expressed across the region was the need to improve access to information about health and social services in English. The Outaouais is quite diverse, so it has been a real challenge compiling all the research into one comprehensive report.”

The public forum will be held on Wednesday, February 8th at the Tétreau Community Center, 361 Lucerne Road in the City of Gatineau’s Hull sector from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Aside from the health needs assessment report, forum participants will also hear about ongoing initiatives in the Outaouais from public health care providers and community organizations from the English-speaking community.  A workshop in the afternoon will provide the opportunity for participants to discuss the information received from the presentations and to explore strategies to foster partnerships and improve access to English health and social services.
