AT LONG LAST - A GYM FOR HERITAGE COLLEGE ! Director Claude Chenier announced Feb. 8, 2002 that Heritage College would be getting its long fought-for Gymnasium and Continuing Education wing. Departing Minister of Education, Minister Legault, granted the college permission to proceed with the loan to build the gym without having to first sell the old Heritage College site at 25 Laurier. This had been a major stumbling block. After thanking the Board of Governors, the staff and students, Regional Association of West Quebecers and the local MNAs for their help and support in the fight for the gym, he announced that students should be using the facility by September 2003.

This is great news for the students and faculty at Heritage College who up until now have had to travel to Laurier St. in Hull for Physical Education classes. This will ease timetable constraints and give the students a home gym where they can support their sports teams.

GO HURRICANES!
Mr. Chenier has hopes that the new facility will become a Community Centre for the English Speaking Community. The college also plans to provide Summer Camps for kids.

The Heritage College Development Fund will be revitalised in order to raise funds for state-of-the-art sports equipment and to pay for facilities beyond the basics that the Ministry guidelines allow for. Watch for upcoming fundraisers!

Regional Association of West Quebecers was heavily involved in the campaign for the gym: over 8000 mail-in protest postcards addressed to the Minister of Education were produced and distributed. President Rick Henderson and his family, the RAWQ staff and the Biard, Seaby, and Jacobs families were also part of the GAP (Gym Action Project) which organized a colorful student rally, hosted an information evening, and held several strategizing meetings. RAWQ aided the college with publicity know-how and media relations expertise. We're very pleased that our efforts have met with success. Congratulations to all who worked tirelessly onthis campaign.! You may not know the RAWQ was a major force in the drive for an independent English CEGEP in the Outaouais
