1st Annual West Quebecers Golf Tournament As a fundraiser for the New Residents Program (whose funding ends in September) West Quebecers will be holding its first annual golf tournament on Sunday, September 14 at the Kingsway Golf Club in Aylmer. Members, friends and family of West Quebecers will be swinging their clubs for a fun and active day! The tournament is a split-tee, best ball starting at 11:30 a.m. After the golf, Happy Hour begins at 5:30 with a putting competition. Supper and prizes follow at 7 p.m. We need your help to make this a success so we encourage all members to support this fundraiser in any way they can. Get a team together, donate a door prize or find a donor, sponsor a hole, volunteer the day of the tournament or, if you are not a golfer, please come for dinner. Call us about sponsorship and/or volunteer opportunities! Register at 682-9602. Check out the website for details at www.westquebecers.com New Residents Program Update Linda Sparks, Coordinator of the New Residents Program, is going great guns. The demand for the urban package has not slowed down and the rural package is ready to go to its distribution points in the Outaouais. Linda says, "We've had many requests for the package and very positive feedback from those who have received it." Funding for this program ends in September. Board Room Now Available West Quebecers is making its boardroom available at no cost to other non-profit organizations for their meetings. It has already hosted the ENRICH AGM this summer as well as an audio conference workshop for parents of Attention Deficit Disorder children. Please contact Rick Henderson, Executive Director at 682-9602 to book the boardroom. Denholm Seniors Day West Quebecers took the Community Directory and the New Residents Rural Package on the road to participate in the Denholm Seniors' Information Day, July 6, 2003 hosted by Municipal Councillor Collette Canavan. Along with other organizations like the SQ, the CLSC, Communications Quebec, and several senior residence representatives, our Community Liaison Officer had a chance to introduce RAWQ, our projects and the New Residents Program. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet and talk with English-speaking seniors in Denholm and the surrounding area. Hot Issue in July Once again the Linguistic Services Policy in the City of Gatineau flared up with President John Trent and Executive Director Rick Henderson handling multiple media interviews over several days in July. The RAWQ Board of Directors has been pursuing this dossier for over 18 months. Premier Charest has voiced his support and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Benoit Pelletier has, himself, issued a letter of support for West Quebecers' campaign to be delivered to Mayor Ducharme and Gatineau City Council. www.westquebecers.com Check out the new additions to our website - Current Issues, Report on Conjugal Violence in Quebec, Volunteer Opportunities, and more.
