Cultural Policy in the
Pontiac. The Pontiac CLD (Local Development
Council) presented the preliminary version of its cultural
policy at a public meeting at the Bryson Theatre on
September 18 and it was adopted by the Pontiac MRC (Regional
County Municipality) on September 27.
It is expected that the final version will be put before the
MRC before the end of the year.
Supported by a grant from the Québec
Ministry of Culture and Communications the CLD’s
cultural development agent, Ben Kuhn, and a cultural policy
development committee have been drafting this policy and
holding public consultations to find out how the population
of the Pontiac view their cultural future. The policy, when
finally adopted, should serve as a tool for the planning of
activities, such as the establishment of cultural centres
and a cultural website, the provision of equipment such as
art supplies, books or musical instruments, and the
creation of a public calendar of cultural events. An action
plan, once adopted, would be the basis for setting up a
budget and obtaining resources.
