October 5.  "Wordstock Olympic Warm-up".  Theatre Wakefield's second spoken word event, and warm-up to the Canadian Spoken Word Olympics in Ottawa October 7-10.  At the Black Sheep Inn, Wakefield.  7 pm. 
Tickets: $5.00 at the door.

This is open stage spoken word, so bring your best rap and get up there on the stage, or else just hang in and enjoy the show and a Black Sheep brew.

Continuing until October 9. “The Crossing.”  A new exhibit featuring mixed-media paintings by Wakefield artist Erika Connor.  At the Galerie Cachée, 715 Riverside Drive, Wakefield.
The exhibition consists of 36 works in acrylic, cedar bark, wood and  newspaper.  They are mainly concerned with the contrast between West Africa, where the artist has lived from time to time, and the Gatineau Valley.

On October 10 the annual Native Harvest Festival was held on the Wakefield waterfront.  Despite uncertain weather the event was well attended.  Ceremonies included singing and drumming by the Algonquin Sangeen singers, and an all-woman circle of Algonquin hand-drum singers came from Maniwaki.  A wild boar was roasted in front of the Khewa Native Art Gallery, and Metis carver Denis Charette could be seen working on the figures which will he will carve into a totem pole depicting his family's history.  The celebration concluded with a potluck feast at the United Church.
