Frederic Kwasi Dunyo and Kathy Armstrong’s Baobab Tree Drum
and Dance Community.
At the Black Sheep Inn,
Wakefield. 4 pm.
A master drummer who originates from Ghana, playing with an
organization he helped to found, and whose mission is to
promote knowledge and experience of the African tradition of
drumming as an activity involving the whole community, and
to strengthen links with the village of Dagbamete in Ghano,
where Frederic Kwasi Dunyo was raised. Baobab Tree has
roots in
Wakefield,
Chelsea and Ottawa. Its adult group Akpokli was founded by
Kathy Armstrong and Rory Magill, under the direction of
Frederic Kwasi Dunyo, in 1995, and made its debut at the
Black Sheep Inn in that year. Both Akpokli and the Baobab
Tree Youth Performers will be on stage on October 17, and
their performance will be taped for CBC-TV. A show for all
ages.

History. “Recollections of growing up in Ottawa’s
LeBreton Flats. “ The Gatineau Valley Historical
Society continues its 2004-05 monthly speakers series with a
talk by Pierre Charlebois.
Mr. Charlebois will speak of his
own personal memories and of the transformation of the Flats
over the past forty years. At the Chelsea Community Centre.
