On November 6,
in Shawville, a celebration was held at the Pontiac
Archives on Main Street to honour the many years of
volunteer service rendered by Mrs. Elsie Sparrow and Mrs.
Pearl McCleary. The celebration also marked the 20th
anniversary of the Archives, created in 1984 and opened in
1987.
The Archives are located in the basement of the Shawville/Clarendon
Library. T
he participants were addressed by Mr. Albert Armstrong,
Mayor of Shawville and the Rev. W.E. McDowell, President
of the Pontiac Historical Society. One of those present was
Mrs. Venetia Crawford, whom Mrs. McCleary described as the
true creator of the Archives. Mrs. Crawford explained that
the venture started with the publication of the book
entitled “Treasures of the Pontiac”, which she hopes
will be republished. Mrs. Crawford has written many books,
and is currently seeking anecdotes about the Champlain
Sea for a new publication.
For information about the Archives, call Mrs.McCleary at
(819) 647-2810.
