Congratulations! Wakefield singer, Alise Marlane (with her song
McArthur’s Farm) is among the songwriters chosen for the New
Folk North showcase at the 2004 Ontario Council of Folk
Festivals.
On October 10
the annual Native Harvest Festival was held on the Wakefield
waterfront. Despite uncertain weather the event was well
attended. Ceremonies included singing and drumming by the
Algonquin Sangeen singers, and an all-woman circle of
Algonquin hand-drum singers came from Maniwaki. A wild boar
was roasted in front of the Khewa Native Art Gallery, and
Metis carver Denis Charette could be seen working on the
figures which will he will carve into a totem pole depicting
his family's history. The celebration concluded with a
potluck feast at the United Church.
