December 1 -15 Events

The George Bryson House Committee is looking for volunteers to assists at its bake sale on Sunday, December 3, from 10.00 am. to 3.00 pm.  The Committee also needs volunteers to catalogue and arrange items received from its archives.For information call 819-683-2382.

December 1. Children,s Story Time at Solstice Books.  Roberta reads from her favourites.At 721 Riverside Drive, Wakefield. For information visit www.solsticewakefield.ca or call 819-459-2797.

December 2.  The four-piece acoustic band Hoodlum, based in Rupert and Duclos, will launch its first CD at Kaffe 1870, in Wakefield.  The CD presents music inspired by traditional Czech peasant songs.  Admission $5.00. For information e-mail the group at hoodlum@magma.ca

December 3 Reception in the Galerie McKenzie Marcotte,   from 2.00 to 4.00 pm,to celebrate the release of the book, Granger’s book “Mother and Child” which has just been released by Novalis Press. Christine Granger is an internationally acclaimed iconographer and artist. Her icons can be found in many private and public collections, including the Canadian Museum of Civilization.  The icons in this exhibition are the original paintings used to illustrate the book.The artist will be there to sign books and to meet visitors to the exhibition. December 8. Book-launch party at Galerie Art de la Paix, across from the train-stop in Wakefield.  Starts 7.00 pm.  Nathan Vanek will read from his book The Bridge Between.  Music and snacks provided.

December 3.  Christine Graves - CD release. At 4.00 pm.

In 2000, Christine was nominated for a K.M. Hunter Artists Award in music through the Ontario Arts Council. She was chosen to join the a capella sensation, Malaika, and tours internationally with the group. Christine founded Ottawa=s monthly songwriter=s stage entitled ALucky Songs@ at the Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield, Que.
