November 1 - 15 Events

Ottawa Folklore Centre, starting next week:  Chris MacLean and Chris White are offering  Songwriting Course at the Ottawa Folklore Centre, (1111 Bank Street).  This is a six week course, on Tuesday evenings, from November 7 to December 12, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Course Fee is $135 (plus Folklore Centre membership, if required).
Course Outline:

  • Week 1 – Song structures, verses, choruses, bridges, lyrics, music, rhythm, songwriting resources
  • Week 2 – Melody, keys, modes, chord progressions, the seven senses, contacting your muse, plot lines
  • Week 3 – Cluster diagrams, imagery, poetic language, rhyming, word play, editing, polishing
  • Week 4 – Rhythms, tempos, non-verbal communication, finding the groove, co-writing
  • Week 5 – Titles, hooks, counteracting self-doubt, performance tips and tricks
  • Week 6 – Special guests, show and tell, tools for future songwriting

Entertainment at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 33, 59 Bancroft, Aylmer.
November 11 (Saturday), Remembrance Day.  Entertainment by Mike Fahey, starting at 4.00 pm.
Thursday night entertainment.  Full meal deal at 6.00 pm.  Cost: $6.00.  Entertainment at 7.30 pm.  Everyone welcome, no membership required.

November 11 (Remembrance Day).  Members and friends of the Gatineau Historical Society (GVHS) are invited to attend the annual Remembrance Day service at the Chelsea Pioneer Cemetery.  The GVHS has hosted this event since 1986 in remembrance of Private Richard Rowland Thompson, Queen's Scarf, who is buried in the cemetery.  As in past years, the Royal Canadian Regiment, to which Private Thompson belonged, will form the guard of honour.

November 11.  Concert of French madrigals by the Castenchel Choir, under the direction at Gary Dahl. At St. Stephen's Church, Chelsea at 7.30 pm. Admission -  donation.
