Murals
at Philemon Wright
It has become a tradition at
Philemon
Wright
High School to hold an annual competition, in the Grade 11
Art class, for the design of 3 new murals for the school’s
halls. The winning designs are
selected by a vote of students and staff.This year’s winners
are Nicki Dohn, Samantha Guigue and Kaitlin Valois.
They are at this time finishing the murals with the aid
of a team of classmates.

Recent events at the Wakefield Library (on May 27) have
included
a Storytelling session on Pets and a reading by
Wakefield writer Hope Maclean from her book Yarn
Paintings of the Huichol.

Pontiac
Artists Association
receive
grant of $4000
from
The Québec Minister of Culture and
Communications.
Madame Line Beauchamp, recently announced
the
money will be used for two projects: the publication of a
promotional leaflet about the 2006
Pontiac Artists' Workshops Tour,
which will take place in June; and the event known as Art
in the Park, in which the public is invited to join the
professional artists in creating a mural.
These annual events are regularly announced in this Cultural
Bulletin.
Radio
Wakefield
Radio Wakefield offers a medium of communication and
artistic expression to the community.
Established in November 2005 with web space funded by Rotary
International as part of the Radio Free Network Radio
Wakefield has been operating as a shell streaming 35 tunes
picked by Paul Symmes of the Black Sheep Inn. Founder Brian
Sanderson, of Rupert, says the station is now ready to
received blogs, music, works in progress, critiques and
agricultural news. It can be a portal to the World Wide Web
and a marketing tool for local business people. Sanderson
says: "The components are there -- the web, the hosting, the
server -- it's up to the community to grow it."

The Shawville Talespinners
meet at the Archives on the first Friday of the month
at 2.00 pm. (summer months excluded). Formed by
Venetia Crawford, one of the founders of the Archives, this
group brings together local people who can remember the
personalities and events of the past. At the first meeting
Ms. Crawford used the topic of "school days" as a starting
point, and related her own experiences as a teacher in Otter
Lake in the 1960s; other participants, including Reverend
William McDowell and Betty Shore, contributed to the same
theme. Among the future topics will be mail delivery, war
heroes and ghosts. Ms. Crawford would like to see
more people participate, and suggests that those who
participate come to the Archives in advance to search the
newspaper clippings for background to stories. The Archives
are open Tuesday to Thursday, 9.00 am. to 4.00 pm., and
Saturday, 10.00 am. to 2.00 p

accompanied by Pontiac singer Gail Gavan, will be in
Dublin, Ireland, where they will be recording a live CD and
DVD. They will be accompanied by a number of relatives,
friends and fans, and Armitage is hoping that the group will
in the end number 100 or more. So far, 35 people have
booked.
