June 16-17. Fundraiser on Friday, June 16 at The Garage in Shawville.  Starts at 7.00 pm.  Five bands: Thurside, Harmonic Distortion, Delicate Distortion, Nefarious Souls and In Safe Hands. Admission $5.00.

On Saturday, June 17 wind-up to Youth Independence Day, at The Garage. Starts at 6.00 pm. Band: Harmonic Distortion. Ages 13-17, free admission.

Christ Church Strawberry Social Sunday June 25th, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  on the lawn at 101 Symmes Street. Assorted sandwiches for lunch, Strawberry Shortcake for Dessert. Musical entertainment. Everyone Welcome. Adults $7.50  Children 6-12  $3.00., Information:  Mary Wilson 684-7351

The School's courses will be given this year from July 8 though 16 at Portage du Fort, using historical buildings such as the Portage school house.  Following the courses there will be an exhibition of the students' work and a video festival.From July 10 through 14 the young artist workshops will be held, for children aged 8 to 14.  Day fees: $35.00. Full five days: $160.00.  Workshop teachers: Valerie Bridgeman, Sher Moscaliuk, Robin Stone, Raymond Sander-Regier, Dale Shutt and Kate Aley.

Tickets: $5.00 donation to CKCU radio station (93.1 FM), which regularly broadcasts Ron Moores’ Back 40 group, every Saturday at noon.

July 2. The Municipality of Allumette Island invites everyone to take part in a ceremony at Desjardinsville, commemorating the construction of the interprovincial bridges and the end of the ferry boat service between Desjardinsville and Pembroke.  This celebration of living history begins with breakfast at 8.00 am.  The Allumette Wagon Train leaves Chapeau at 10.00 am. and arrives at Desjardinsville at 11.45 am.  The Antique Car Show arrives at Desjardinsville at 10.30 am.  At 12 noon there will be a mass at Notre-Dame-du-Lac Mission Church.  Other events will be the blessing of the boats at Desjardins dock, the unveiling of a historical panel, presentations and a pow-wow of the Algonquin First Nation.  At 4.00 pm. there will be a steak barbecue (price: $15.00). Activities will include a bake sale, crafts, quilting, art exhibition, exhibition of antique farm equipment and chidren's games. Visitors are encouraged to bring old family photos, family trees, musical instruments and lawn chairs.  Food and refreshments available all day.

The Pontiac School of the Arts will be holding its second annual session from July 8 to July 16, at Portage du Fort.  Workshops will include papermaking, silk screen, printmaking, printing, elementary drawing, free-lance writing, digital photography, video, and portraiture. Until August 10 Geraldine Classen, from Portage du Fort, is holding her exhibition "Abandoned in the Pontiac" at the Casino du Lac-Leamy in Hull.  Her paintings, into which she incorporates old photographs, depict empty, unused buildings, and reveal a style different from that of earlier work in which she was inspired by her time in Mexico.Geraldine Classen is a participant in the Pontiac Artists' Studio Tour and a member of the Board of the Pontiac School of the Arts (PSOTA).  See the entries in this Bulletin regarding these two events

Advance Notice October 15 -22
Mick Armitage Band,
accompanied by Pontiac singer Gail Gavan, will be in Dublin, Ireland, where they will be recording a live CD and DVD. They will be accompanied by a number of relatives, friends and fans, and Armitage is hoping that the group will in the end number 100 or more.  So far, 35 people have booked.
