CHELSEA COMMUNITY EVENTS

September 20. The Gatineau Valley Historical Society opened its 2004-2005 monthly speakers series at the Chelsea Community Centre with a talk by Allan Richens about the restoration of the historic Rideau Street Chapel interior, which was relocated to the National Gallery of Canada.

New Bookstore Livres Chelsea Books opened on September 4 with authors Brian Doyle and Phil Jenkins on the premises to read from their works.  The owner, Frances Curry, has located her bookstore on the Old Chelsea Road, opposite Chelsea Town Hall.

September 18-19 & 25-26.  “Artists in their Environment” 15th Anniversary (2004) Chelsea and Wakefield artists’ studio tour.
This year six new artisans/artists will be joining the group: Carmella Karijo Rother: (fabric artist); Mike Beedell (photography, emphasizing the natural world); Kirei (jeweler: wearable art, using the medium of fired glass and precious metals); Monelle Vadier (haute couture); Lee Hutchinson (pottery); Elizabeth Rutlidge (painting in pastels);  Heather MacDonald (sculpture in stone, accented with other objects from the natural world).   Artists who were in last year’s tour are continuing to participate:

John Burns (furniture); Sandy Castledine (painting/mixed media); Donald Doiron (Damascus steel); Mechthild Dubois-Utters (painting/mixed media); Hélène-Anne Fortin (photo portraits); Marilyn French-St. George and Richard Stoker (kiln-formed glass, stained glass); Carol Goodman (watercolour); Michael Kinghorn (ironwork, sculpture); Udo Kohrmann (architectural ceramics); Heather Lamorie (watercolour); Alex MacKenzie (wood sculpture); Rebecca Mason (watercolour); Reid McLachlan (oil painting); Jason Mayer (oil painting); Janice Moorhead (layered glass); Marie-France Nitski (painting); Louis Rompré (starlight candles); Hugh Stewart (canoe builder); Marc Walter (painting/mixed media); Raymond Warren (ceramic sculpture); Brenda-Lee Wilson (colour photography; Linda Wright (painting).
