Sheenboro
celebrates St. Patrick’s Day.
On March 12, over 100 people gathered in Sheenboro Parish
Hall to hold their annual St. Patrick’s Day party. Jim
Beattie, originally from Northern Ireland, and the local
Wednesday Nighters Musicians, provided music for dancing,
and Jim Beattie entertained with piano and accordion and
sang traditional Irish favourites.
Low Senior Citizens’ Club holds its Fifth Annual St. Paddy’s Concert.
On March 12 St. Michael’s High School auditorium in Low was
packed to capacity for this event, which featured musical
performances by the McCarthy family, Jennifer Smith and
Gerard and Bernard Sullivan, and Michael O’Sullivan and
Diane Shipley. Students from St. Michael’s performed two
skits, “The Funeral” and “The Circus”. Proceeds from the
event, about $1800, will be used to support a proposed trip
by the school’s students to the historic sites of Normandy
and Juno Beach.
On
the afternoon of February 19 the Grade 11 art students
from
Philemon Wright High School, led by their teacher Marilyn
Smith,
held their Art Show at Galerie Old Chelsea.
Ruth Stewart-Verger,
of Rasputin’s, is making a new CD (her second) of
Storytelling and Song. The songs are by Charlie Sohmer,
and Chris MacLean, associated with Galitcha and
Frida’s Brow, and frequently mentioned in this Bulletin, is
participating in the making of the CD.
Barbara
Florio Graham has launched the 20th anniversary
edition of Five Fast Steps to Better Writing
at the National Library in Ottawa in October. It features a
new section aimed at writers who need to know the basics of
freelancing for magazines, newspapers and the Internet.
Additional chapters cover copyright, handling assignments,
self-publishing and creativity, which is one of
