October 1. Official opening of the Archives and Exhibition
Centre of the Aylmer Heritage Association by Mayor Yves
Ducharme and Mr. Marcel Proulx, M.P.
At the renovated Old Methodist Chapel,
495 Aylmer Road
(entry, Golf Street). At 1:30 pm.
There will be an Open House at which the public is
invited to visit the new office of the Association and to
share old photographs of
Aylmer
and the region.
This event is part of the City of
Gatineau’s program of Journées
de la culture.
October 1-2. L’histoire racontée par ses habitants (History
as people have lived it). La Librairie Michabou,
Aylmer’s recently established bilingual bookshop, which was
burned down in the fire at the Glenwood Shopping Plaza,
is organizing this event. It will be an opportunity to
meet historical characters, storytellers, writers and
ordinary citizens who travel back in time to share a piece
of local history. Stories will be presented in both
languages.

October 3. Preserving our Built Heritage – The
Aylmer Experience. Talk by Mr. Richard Bégin,
former President of the Aylmer Heritage Association and
President of the
Symmes Inn Museum, who will present a historical
retrospective of the Association’s collaboration with the
Municipality of Aylmer in the work of preserving heritage
buildings and ensuring architectural integration.
