August Events

August 5 – September 5.  Landscape, an exhibition of oil paintings by Ruby McEwen, Shawn McNevin, Michael Sproule and Joan Sutherland, at Galerie McKenzie Marcotte in Wakefield.
Noting the continuing interest of artists in landscape the Galerie states that it has brought together the work of these four artists, all rooted in the Gatineau Hills and having much in common with one another.
Galerie McKenzie Marcotte is located at 26 Sully Road in the village of Wakefield.  From Ottawa take highway 5 north, then highway 105 to Wakefield.  The gallery is open weekends from 10.00 am. to
5.00 pm., and at all other times by chance or by appointment,

August 12 and 13.  The Ottawa Valley Antique Association will hold its 10th Annual Show at the Armstrong Heritage Farm, Highway 148, in Shawville.

August 13.   Visit to St. James Cemetery (heritage site).  The City of Gatineau and the Société d’histoire de l’Outaouais (SHO) invite members of the public to a tour of the St. James Cemetery, under the title Aux sources historiques de Gatineau et de l’O utaouais, starting at the entrance to the cemetery at 2 pm.  The cemetery is located on Alexandre-Taché Boulevard, between Scott Street and St. Joseph Boulevard.
Commentary will be provided by Michel Prévost, President of the
SHO.   Opened in 1820, this is the oldest cemetery in the City;  it is the resting place of the pioneers of the region and has many remarkable monuments.
There is no charge for this activity.

August 17-18-19-20.  The 13th Annual Ottawa Folk Festival.  Events in Britannia Park, Ottawa The program includes performers well known in Western Quebec include Ian Tamblyn (Chelsea) and Lynn Miles, originally from Aylmer, and the groups Frida’s Brow and Galitcha, which have often appeared at the Black Sheep Inn.  Dates and times: August 18, 5.30 pm, to 11.00 pm.; August 19, 11.00 am. to 11.30 pm.

August 2-20.  Reid McLachlan, of Chelsea, is participating in Oppidan, an exhibition at the Cube gallery in Ottawa.  This is a group show put on by six artists.  The theme is our urban landscape.
August 4. Opening party, 7.00 pm. to midnight.
August 6. Reception, 2.00 – 4.00 pm.
CUBE is located at 7 Hamilton N. Ottawa, one block north and west of the Parkdale market.  10.00 – 6.00pm daily (except Mondays).

At Biblio Wakefield Library, until August 26.  The Library continues its Summer Reading Program for children aged 5 to 12.  The theme is Quest for Heroes.
Hours: For ages 5-8, Monday and Saturday, 11.00 am. For ages 9-12, Tuesday at 11.00 am. and Friday at 4.00 pm.

A Call to Artists for Submissions for an Exhibition in 2007.The Espace Pierre-Debain in Aylmer invites artists engaged in a variety of media to submit entries for an exhibition to be held at the Centre culturel du Vieux-Aylmer, 120 Principale, Gatineau, in 2007. Deadline for submissions : September 15, 2006.
Submissions must include :
- ten recent pieces of work on CD-rom or slides
- curriculum vitae
- a summary of your artistic career
- a brief description of your proposed exhibit
Submissions will be evaluated by a selection committee.  They should be sent to : Louise Tourangeau, responsable de l’Espace Pierre-Debain, Ville de Gatineau, C. P. 1970, succ. Hull, Gatineau (Québec) J8X 3Y9, or you may deliver them in person at the Centre culturel du Vieux-Aylmer, 120, rue Principale, Gatineau (secteur d’Aylmer).
