Competition for Visual Artists.  The City of Gatineau has announced, in anticipation of the annual celebration of Les Culturiades on Wednesday, October 25, that it will accept submissions of original works of art, of which one will be selected by a jury for award to the recipient of the Hommage Ville de Gatineau prize during the celebration. The City invites the participation of artists living in the Outaouais region (region 7) and the National Capital region (125 km radius) to submit an original work created during the past three years.  The deadline for submissions is October 11 next. , venue for performing artists at the Centre Culturel du Vieux-Aylmer, 120 Principale in Aylmer, has just published an outline of its program for 2006-07.  The list includes the group Galitcha, whose appearances at the Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield have often been mentioned in this Bulletin. The Castenchel Choir in Chelsea is recruiting new members for its 2006-2007 season.  Well-known for its concerts, given at St. Stephen's Church in Old Chelsea, the choir sings a wide variety of music.  The Director is Gary Dahl.

The Steering Committee for the Fairbairn Museum project has drafted three documents, which are serving as the basis for the production of the forthcoming Business Plan which will guide the development and long-term operation  of the Museum and facilitate fund-raising.
Preparation of the Business Plan is funded by the Gatineau Valley Historical Society, the SADC Pontiac and the CLD des Collines-de-l'Outaouais.
The three documents are:
1. Fairbairn House - Buildings Archaeological Series, Report #1, by Jonathan  Murphy and Shawn Graham (website www.fairbairn.ca/fairbairn.pdf).
2. Fairbairn Museum Building and Infrastructure Plan, by Michael Cooper, Neil Faulkner and John Kingsley (website www.fairbairn.ca/fairbairn_bldg_plan.pdf).
3. Fairbairn Museum Vision, Products and Services, by Tamara Tarasoff and Krista Cooke (recently discussed at three focus groups meeting at Les Trois Érables in Wakefield).

Gary Dahl, the Director of the Castenchel choir, has cut a CD featuring a cycle of 22 favourite Mennonite hymns, entitled Songs from the Gesangbuch.The CD is available for purchase. For information call (819) 827-3975

The Gatineau Valley Historical Society has just published Volume 32 of its series Up the Gatineau!, featuring eight local stories of the past, on such subjects as firefighting, a family of settlers, prohibition, women and the vote, and old-time schooldays.The Volume is available at Solstice Books in Wakefield, through reidh@travel-net.com, or by calling (819) 827-0138.

A Call to Artists for Submissions for an Exhibition in 2007.The Espace Pierre-Debain in Aylmer invites artists engaged in a variety of media to submit entries for an exhibition to be held at the Centre culturel du Vieux-Aylmer, 120 Principale, Gatineau, in 2007. Deadline for submissions : September 15, 2006.
Submissions must include :
- ten recent pieces of work on CD-rom or slides
- curriculum vitae
- a summary of your artistic career
- a brief description of your proposed exhibit
Submissions will be evaluated by a selection committee.  They should be sent to : Louise Tourangeau, responsable de l’Espace Pierre-Debain, Ville de Gatineau, C. P. 1970, succ. Mick Armitage Band,
accompanied by Pontiac singer Gail Gavan, will be in Dublin, Ireland, where they will be recording a live CD and DVD. They will be accompanied by a number of relatives, friends and fans, and Armitage is hoping that the group will in the end number 100 or more.  So far, 35 people have booked.
