The Pontiac School of the Arts will be holding its second annual session from July 8 to July 16, at Portage du Fort.  Workshops will include papermaking, silk screen, printmaking, printing, elementary drawing, free-lance writing, digital photography, video, and portraiture. July 26.  The Norway Bay Historical Society will hold its annual coffee party and sale:  baking, books, toys and treasures at the Bristol Town Hall, Aylmer Road, Bristol, at 10.00  am. Everybody welcome.

Until July 30.  Becky Mason, ofChelsea, is one of five artists displaying their work in a group show Diapason, at the Cube gallery in Ottawa.  The theme of the show is the relation of art to music.  Using watercolour on Japanese natural paper Becky Mason expresses themes drawn from her natural surroundings with water, trees and wetlands as the central themes.   The translation of water and pigment on to paper has the rhythm and spirit of jazz improvisation. CUBE is located at 7 Hamilton N. Ottawa, one block north and west of the Parkdale market.  10.00 – 6.00pm daily (except Mondays).

At Biblio Wakefield Library, until August 26.  The Library continues its Summer Reading Program for children aged 5 to 12.  The theme is Quest for Heroes.

A Call to Artists for Submissions for an Exhibition in 2007.The Espace Pierre-Debain in Aylmer invites artists engaged in a variety of media to submit entries for an exhibition to be held at the Centre culturel du Vieux-Aylmer, 120 Principale, Gatineau, in 2007. Deadline for submissions : September 15, 2006.
Submissions must include :
- ten recent pieces of work on CD-rom or slides
- curriculum vitae
- a summary of your artistic career
- a brief description of your proposed exhibit
Submissions will be evaluated by a selection committee.  They should be sent to : Louise Tourangeau, responsable de l’Espace Pierre-Debain, Ville de Gatineau, C. P. 1970, succ. July 26.  A Company of Fools, Ottawa's only independent professional Shakespeare company, is bringing The Two Gentlemen of Verona for an outdoor performance at La Grange.  This performance, the first which the Company has put on in Wakefield, will be part of the its Torchlight Shakespeare series, which began on July 3 and will run to August 7 in parks throughout the Ottawa area. 

The show starts at 7.00 pm., at La Grange, 37 Rockhurst Road.  Tickets are "pass-the-hat", with a recommended donation of $10.00 per person.  Spectators are advised to bring their own blankets or lawn chairs.

 

Until July 30.  Encounters, an exhibition of new work by Wakefield artist Sara Sparks, at Galerie Cachée, open daily 11.00 am. to 6.00 pm.  Galerie Cachée is located at Place 1870, 715 Riverside Drive, Wakefield.For information call 819-459-1525.

Until July 30.  Gatineau Woodlands, an exhibition of oil paintings by Ruby Ewen at Chez Lucien, 137 Murray Street, Ottawa; open daily 11.00 am. to 2.00 pm.  Ruby Ewen, who teaches at the Pontiac School of the Arts and draws the cartoons for The West Quebec Post, has shown her work across Canada and the United States, and is represented in several major collections.
