return to RAWQ home...The RAWQ ReportCalling New ResidentsThe Regional Association of West Quebecers is pleased to report that the New Residents Program is off to a great start! This outreach program has already identified and contacted several new English-speaking residents. Program coordinator, Linda Sparks, has interviewed new English-speaking residents to determine their primary needs following their move to the Outaouais region. "Since January, feedback from RAWQ reports and news releases in local community newspapers about the New Residents Program, have kept the phone lines humming and e-mail boxes full at our office. We've also had several new residents drop by in person," said Mrs. Sparks. A trial information package based on the stated needs gathered from the interviews with new residents will be tested shortly with the help of the New Residents Volunteer Committee. Contacts within the new City of Gatineau and the community-at-large have been established as well as working relationships with various business associations. Research continues with several Quebec government departments collecting information pamphlets that are available in English. The complete Information Package will have vital information from provincial and local governments, educational and health institutions as well as business and cultural groups for the urban core. Once the package is completed, it will be adapted for the rural areas of the Outaouais region. If you're new to the area, or know someone who is, please contact Linda Sparks, coordinator for the New Residents Program at (819) 682-9602 or toll free at 1-877-733-0177. Mrs. Sparks can be reached by e-mail at newresidents@magma.ca. The office is located at 53 Principale Street, in the Aylmer sector.
