New residents, Old Residents and Great Golf

The New Residents Program which supplies new residents to the Outaouais with an envelope of practical information about government contacts, services and cultural events is running at full steam. Our office is contacted almost daily by rural or urban citizens seeking the information package. In addition there are distribution points for the package through some real estate agents, home builders, and municipal offices.

Linda Sparks, coordinator of the New Residents Program says, "We haven't slowed down one bit. Summer seems to be the time to move. Even people who have been here a few months are asking for the package. We're very pleased that they are finding it so useful."

The initial project was government funded but that funding finishes this September. On Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003 the 1st Annual West Quebecers golf Tournament will be held at the Kingsway Golf Club in Aylmer as a fundraiser for the continuation of the New Residents Program. "It's a wonderful opportunity to come out and meet your fellow residents, old and new, to support a community program, as well as to win some great prizes," says Kathy Teasdale, Community Liaison Officer at RAWQ.
