Board of Directors for 2007 - 2008
Bill Cameron
I presently live in Buckingham with my wife Linda. My family has been
in Buckingham since the mid-1800’s. I am retired after spending almost
35 years in the federal public service. I have occupied several senior
management positions in the public service and have been involved in
several community and church organizations. I am presently a warden with
Our Lady of Victory Catholic church and also work with the Papineau
Hospital Foundation. I am the Past President of the Buckingham
Historical Society. I have also served as President of Minor Hockey and
our Parish refugee committee. I was also Vice-President of the
Buckingham Centennial Committee. I hope to bring a greater awareness of
RAWQ to the English population in the Buckingham area and increase
membership levels at the same time. Hopefully I can also bring some
thoughtful approaches to the challenges our community faces within the
region.

Zdena Harder
Originally from Czechoslovakia, Zdena immigrated to Canada at the age of
three and spent most of her childhood in Ontario. Her early education
was through the Roman Catholic School Board and a major part of her
youth focused on the performing arts as she studied dance in both Ottawa
and Toronto.
Zdena later attended the University of Ottawa where she met her husband
and graduated with a biochemistry degree. She went on to obtain a
Master’s degree in biochemistry doing cell biology research at the
University of Ottawa Heart Institute. At the end of her graduate degree
in 2003, she and her husband moved to Aylmer and had their first child.
They were particularity attracted by all outdoor recreation that Aylmer
has to offer to young families in the area especially with the close
proximity of the Gatineau Hills, great bike paths, friendly parks and
beaches. Since then, their family has grown and they now have three
fabulous young children. Zdena is currently a homemaker but has
occasionally done contract work as a clinical trial coordinator. Her
time at home has given her the opportunity to volunteer in the
community. This mainly includes initiating and coordinating a very
successful children’s playgroup and volunteering in various other ways.
She looks forward to serving on RAWQ’s Board to further the interests of
the English-speaking community in the Outaouais particularly for young
families, youth and children.
Larry Newman was born in Binghamton, NY
and worked in the U.S., Canada, and Germany in various positions. He
retired in 1999, after spending the last 20 years working for a
consulting firm in Washington, D.C. as an Air Traffic Control
analyst. Being fond of Ottawa and the friends made when he lived there
in the seventies, he and his wife moved to Canada in 2000 and
became citizens in 2004. They planned to live again in Ottawa but found
their way happily to Aylmer and Champlain Park. He is vice president of
the Champlain Park Resident’s Association and also vice president of the
Coalition of Residents’ Associations. While being active in these
organizations and a member of RAWQ, he had the opportunity to interact
with members of the city staff. He hopes that his contribution to RAWQ
will help maintain the rights of English-speaking residents of the
Outaouais.
